Pre and Post Care For Massages
Pre-Massage Care:
-
Hydrate Well:
-
Drink plenty of water before your massage. Staying hydrated helps to prevent muscle soreness and helps the therapist work on your muscles more effectively.
-
-
Avoid Heavy Meals or Alcohol:
-
Try not to eat a heavy meal or drink alcohol before your massage, as it could make you feel sluggish or uncomfortable.
-
-
Arrive Early:
-
Arrive at least 10-15 minutes early to allow yourself time to relax and fill out any forms. This gives you time to settle and get into a calm state before the massage.
-
-
Communicate Any Health Issues:
-
Inform the therapist about any injuries, areas of discomfort, or health concerns (such as pregnancy, allergies, or specific pain). This will help the therapist tailor the massage to your needs.
-
-
Relax and Clear Your Mind:
-
Try to relax before your massage by taking deep breaths or doing a short meditation. A calm mind can enhance your massage experience.
-
Post-Massage Care:
-
Hydrate:
-
Drink plenty of water after your massage to help flush out toxins that may have been released during the session. Hydrating is key to avoiding any post-massage soreness.
-
-
Rest:
-
Give your body time to rest after a massage, especially if you have had a deep tissue session. Avoid strenuous activity for a few hours to allow your muscles to recover.
-
-
Avoid Hot Baths or Showers Immediately:
-
Although tempting, avoid hot showers or baths right after a massage as it can make your muscles overly relaxed. A warm shower is fine, but extreme heat might cause dizziness or increase soreness.
-
-
Gentle Stretching:
-
Light stretching can help maintain muscle flexibility and reduce any stiffness after the massage.
-
-
Notice Any Soreness:
-
It’s common to feel a little sore or tender after a massage, especially if you had deep tissue work. If the soreness persists or feels unusual, inform the therapist for future sessions.
-
-
Take It Easy:
-
After a deep massage, your body might need some time to adjust, so take it easy and don’t overexert yourself immediately after.
